The home of a young couple is a reflection of their unbridled modern outlook and informal, easy-going warmth. The couple’s unique style leans towards a blend of contemporary and Indian-folksy aesthetics, which is reflected in every nook and space of their home. The design brief was for an open, airy, and warm home, and the design team delivered with a proposal of arches across all openings to accentuate the courtyard impression.
The living room resembles a courtyard with every room, including the kitchen, dining room, and foyer, looking into it, and vice versa. The design team suggested veneer panelling around the arches for a warm appearance, while maintaining an airy feeling throughout. The natural teak finish ties all the veneer-based units and elements together, from the crockery to the TV unit, study/side ledges, wooden slats, and breakfast counter fascia.
The foyer gives a sneak peek into the large living room with a broad TV space featuring rattan finish shutters. Every furniture piece, thoughtfully picked from freedom tree homes, adds to the fulfilment of the gathering area while keeping it minimal. Right behind the living room is the kitchen with an open plan and a breakfast counter. The neutral wash of cabinetry and granite is beautifully accentuated with the blue mosaic tile that truly draws attention, emphasized by the arch entry.
Perpendicularly besides the living room is the dining room, especially created with a lot of love and care. Wooden flooring lends warmth, and the low-height crockery unit with fluted glass and granite top fulfils storage needs. The recessed arch in mellow ochre sings the language, and the artefact partition ties a neat bow to the room. This room is a mood and indeed the highlight of the home.
Next in the geography of the home is the study cum media den, which follows a contemporary palate. The study ledge unfolds to a window seating on one side and continues as a TV ledge on the perpendicular wall. This area is where the clients wind through work and unwind after work. Besides, it also doubles as a gaming zone for a passionate gamer in the client. Twilight is a sight to behold here, giving the impression that the sun is setting right into the window’s lap. All one needs is a chai and an immersive mindspace.
The guest bedroom follows the same contemporary palate and features a royal blue PU-polished wardrobe with a TV ensconced within it on one side. This room also doubles as a second work-from-home room, and an elaborate study ledge is provided for. A rattan headboard bed was added last minute during the design process, and the combination of the royal blue wardrobe and rattan weave of the bed makes the space very earthy. It’s a perfect addition to the room.
The master bedroom continues the warm and earthy language of the bedrooms with specially curated natural teak finish furniture. There was enough space for a wholesome walk-in wardrobe zone, but the design team continued with the open and airy brief, and the wardrobe area is only partitioned mildly with wooden slats instead of a hard wall or sliders
In conclusion, this home is a beautiful blend of contemporary and Indian-folksy aesthetics, reflecting the unique personality of the young couple who reside in it. Every nook and space resonates with their unbridled modern outlook and informal, easy-going warmth, making it a perfect reflection of the people residing in it.
