Nestled within the prestigious Shapoorji Pallonji Parkwest in Bangalore, the Cane & Concrete project by Vedika Modi and Aman Thakur, Principal Architects at Aantrik, is a testament to the art of crafting contemporary living spaces that blend sophistication with serenity. Completed in 2024, this apartment interior design reflects the studio’s commitment to creating cohesive environments where every detail resonates with thoughtful elegance.
At the heart of this design lies a carefully curated neutral colour palette, where shades of beige, white, and light wood tones establish a calm and inviting atmosphere. The subtle introduction of black, gold, and soft green accents adds depth and visual intrigue, creating a balanced harmony that defines the space.
The living room, a quintessential expression of modern minimalism, features a sleek TV unit with vertical paneling as its focal point. Below, a floating cabinet offers ample storage, maintaining a clean, uncluttered aesthetic. The space is further enhanced by a gold wall sconce and a decorative vase, infusing an elegant touch. Curtains with a delicate leaf pattern subtly bring nature indoors, echoing the tranquil environment.
Adjacent to the living room, the clever space planning continues with a sectional sofa and a round coffee table, forming a cozy seating arrangement. Wooden slat partitions elegantly delineate the area, preserving an open feel while providing a sense of separation. The recessed lighting in the ceiling treatment adds an architectural element, enhancing the room’s overall ambiance.
In the dining area, the design narrative continues its graceful flow, embracing the warmth and natural textures of wood and cane. The space is anchored by beautifully crafted chairs, their cane backs and wooden frames adding a touch of artisanal craftsmanship that complements the overall aesthetic. These chairs are not merely functional but serve as key design elements that enhance the room’s visual appeal, inviting guests to linger longer.
Above the dining table, a striking pendant light fixture becomes a focal point, casting a soft, warm glow that envelops the space in an intimate ambiance, perfect for both everyday meals and special gatherings. The light fixture, with its sculptural form and thoughtful design, adds an element of sophistication, elevating the dining experience. Surrounding the table, carefully curated wall art and decorative objects add layers of personality and charm, reflecting a curated yet personal approach to design. Each piece is chosen to contribute to the overall harmony of the space, blending functionality with style in a way that feels both deliberate and effortlessly elegant.
In the kitchen, the design marries functionality with aesthetic finesse, creating a space that is both practical and visually captivating. The clean lines of white cabinetry establish a sense of openness and brightness, serving as a pristine canvas against which the dramatic black countertops stand out in striking contrast. This monochromatic pairing exudes modern elegance, balancing light and dark elements to create a space that is as refined as it is functional.
A terrazzo-inspired backsplash adds a playful and artistic touch to the kitchen, infusing the space with subtle patterns and flecks of colour that break up the monochrome scheme with a hint of whimsy. This choice of material not only introduces texture and visual interest but also ties together the design elements, creating a cohesive and dynamic backdrop that enhances the overall aesthetic.
Above the countertops, glass-front upper cabinets provide a perfect blend of style and practicality. These cabinets allow for the display of organised essentials, transforming everyday kitchenware into curated decor pieces. The transparency of the glass adds depth and dimension to the kitchen, while also making it easy to find and access items. The result is a kitchen that is not only highly functional but also beautifully designed, with every element thoughtfully integrated to create a harmonious and inviting space.
The bedroom exudes tranquility, enveloped in a soft mint green and blush colour scheme. A cane headboard adds texture and warmth, while built-in storage solutions maximise space efficiency without compromising on style. The arched mirror and wall sconces create visual intrigue, turning the bedroom into a serene retreat.
In the other bedroom, a warm, muted palette creates a serene and understated ambiance, perfectly suited for relaxation and focus. The design embraces minimalism, allowing the natural beauty of the materials to take centre stage. A wooden bed, with its clean lines and rich grain, serves as the focal point of the room, exuding a sense of timeless elegance. Complementing the bed is the wooden study table, designed to provide a functional workspace without disrupting the room’s calm atmosphere. The simplicity of the design, combined with the warmth of the wood, creates a space that feels both inviting and tranquil, offering a perfect retreat from the bustle of daily life.
“Our goal was to create a space that feels both luxurious and livable, where every detail has been thoughtfully considered to enhance the overall experience. Cane & Concrete is a reflection of our dedication to designing homes that are not only beautiful but also tailored to the needs of those who live in them.” — Vedika Modi and Aman Thakur, Principal Architects, Aantrik
